Már, son of Sigurdur Greipsson, started building a tourism business at Geysir Haukadal in 1972 and devoted himself to building up the family hotel Hotel Geysir since 1993 and was a great entrepreneur in tourism.
Már received the Order of the Falcon in 2005, from the President of Iceland, for initiative in tourism development. Már passed away in 2017 and he will always live in our hearts. Hotel Geysir is still operated by his family.
The Geysir-Center, which is directly opposite the geothermal area of Geysir and Strokkur, consists of a whole building complex with three restaurants, Geysir design store, souvenir shop, Hekla outdoor clothing, Kantina snack shop and camping area.
There are various activities around Geysir. Like Geysir golf course, hiking trails in our beautiful valley Haukadalur, Langjökull glacier tours and other activities such as highland tours.
We offer various types of accommodation, Hotel Geysir, Litli Geysir and Geysir Cottages.
Litli Geysir Hotel offers 22 rooms, beautiful lounge, restaurant with a view over the hot spring area, fire place, telescope, free wi-fi and free parking.
Geysir Cottages has 14 twin/double rooms beside the river and everything is in walking distance: restaurants, shop and just two minutes from the geothermal area of the great Geysir.
The geothermal field surrounding the Great Geyser is the definitive geyser, having given its name to the geological phenomena. The Strokkur, another famous geyser located nearby, gives a performance every few minutes, shooting a tower of water and steam 30 metres into the air.
Walking around this natural wonder, one experiences the intensity of the forces of nature. Nighttime offers a fascinating view of the bubbling hot springs and the northern lights. A pot of boiling water takes on new dimensions.
We place great pride in our hotel and are pleased to welcome you here and ensure your stay will be pleasant and memorable.
